Recently  Polished Ponies Australia started a campaign against Bullying in the equestrian industry. This is very important to Shane personally as he has personally been a victim of bullying within the industry, which at one point took a serious toll on his mental health. There are definitely people out there who just like to bully other people for whatever reason, however, he thinks there are those out there that bully people without actually realising the effect of what they are saying or doing has on others. Shane hopes that through education and making people aware of how catastrophic bullying can be on someone's life, that they will make an effort to change. ‘Bullying does take lives, we know this and if just one life is saved through this campaign to me that is worthwhile’ Shane said. He has spoken to so many people who have walked away from the industry because of bullying, as well as to people with children who attended their first horse show and never went back for the same reason, which means sometimes, children and adults alike are missing out on the one thing that makes them the happiest in life. So, once you take that away the consequences can be like dominoes. This campaign goes hand in hand with the Polished Ponies; ‘there can't be one without the other’. For all of the bullying within this industry there are just as many wonderful people he has seen over and over. People come to each other's aid when they are in need within this industry, however, we just need more of that. Shane doesn’t want to make it sound like it's all bad because it isn't. ‘90% of this industry is wonderful and amazing, but that 10% can cause a great amount of damage and that's what we need to try and stop’.
